The Middle East's first limited-edition art and design fair launches this November in Dubai
A new art and design fair is joining Dubai’s dynamic culture calendar, making its debut during Dubai Design Week. Running from 6 to 9 November in Dubai Design District (d3), Editions, Dubai, will run alongside Downtown Design and will be the Middle East’s first limited-edition art and design fair with an inaugural curation of works by over 50 galleries, design studios and collectives.
The only platform for high-quality, limited edition works at varied prices in the Middle East, the fair sets out to open up the art and design world, presenting a new opportunity for broader audiences to engage with and connect with contemporary creatives. Editions will debut with a diverse roster of exhibitors, featuring leading designers and galleries working across a variety of mediums – from prints and contemporary design to photography, ceramics, and works on paper. From internationally recognised design studios and galleries to emerging galleries presenting young talent, this selection brings together expertise, high-quality craftsmanship, and innovative artistic approaches.
Contemporary Design
Elevated functional objects that focus on form, innovative aesthetics, and high-quality craftsmanship will be showcased. Notable highlights include Emirati designer Aljoud Lootah, unveils a new collection celebrating a decade of her studio, Blooker Gallery explores the intersection of art and utility and 1971-Design Space showcases custom sculptural works inspired by Emirati culture.
Ceramics
Exhibitors will showcase a variety of works in ceramics, including clay vases, stoneware, and porcelain. SANATORIUM presents Çağla Köseoğulları's innovative clay designs, while Hestia Gallery will present the work of Elsa Foulon, who embraces the unpredictability of the way in which fire shapes her large organic lights, and Waddington Custot exhibits ceramic tile works by renowned Lebanese-American poet Etel Adnan.
Works on paper
Works on paper will be discovered through a variety of techniques such as collage, coloured pen, watercolour, egg tempera on map paper, woodcut, cyanotype, and charcoal on paper. Comptoir Des Mines Galerie showcases vibrant pieces by Moroccan artist Farid Belkahia, while Abdulrahim Salim reflects on Emirati culture through charcoal, and Armin Najib, who utilises improvisation to bring his collages to life.
Prints
Prints, works for which multiple iterations have been made through a method of press, will be presented in various forms such as lithography, monotype on paper, screenprinting, and serigraphy. Meem Gallery presents screenprints by pioneer of Arab Art Dia Azzawi, and Nat Bowen showcases her striking resin prints made using revolutionary high-rendering technology.
Photography
The photography exhibits will highlight the medium's artistic and narrative versatility with presentations from Gulf Photo Plus, highlights Hussain Al Moosawi’s works that document the UAE's architectural landscape and poignant narratives from the region, and Shirin Neshat from Leila Heller Gallery brings their captivating perspectives, showcasing how photography can bridge cultural and social narratives.
Talks
The Forum at Downtown Design will be hosting the inaugural Editions talks programme, exploring the ever-evolving dynamics of the creative world through the perspectives of artists, collectors, designers, and industry leaders with a line-up of exciting speakers including Abulla Alkaabi, Karine Obeji, Lamya Gargash and Nada Debs. These conversations focus on current trends as they intersect within three pillars: the disruption of the art market, the intricacies of editioning, and the role of art and design in shaping community identity.
Editions will bring together the audiences and programming of Downtown Design, the region’s leading fair for high-quality and contemporary design, and Art Dubai, the leading international art fair, and further expand on the investment in this region’s creatives. The fair will be a key fixture of Dubai Design Week, which, in strategic partnership with d3, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
