Dubai Design Week will present an exciting line-up of activities and activations for children of all ages to enjoy over the weekend of the 12th and 13th November, from creating with clay and learning the art of folding origami, to making a net-zero carbon city, inspired entirely by the imagination.
A range of special workshops staged under the theme of ’Paper, Plastic + Play’ will give visitors the opportunity to make their own wooden pen, create DIY clay-paint palettes or learn how to up-cycle plastic waste into usable objects, while the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Gulf Chapter will host a workshop for aspiring young architects titled ‘Fantastical Future Cities’, celebrating World Children's Day in a fun-filled and unique activity.
With many activities driven by environmentally friendly materials and practices, sustainable lifestyle brand Innara will bring a locally-inspired workshop where children can get their hands dirty with clay sourced in Fujairah and make their own clay crafts to take home.
New York University Abu Dhabi’s Plastic Recycling Research Lab will be setting up their very own mini lab where participants can learn how plastic bags can be recycled into usable, durable items like a coin purse and how bioplastics, a sustainable alternative to plastic, can be actually made from everyday ingredients.
Jojos Art House will host eco-focused painting and doodling activities, giving children the opportunity to learn how recycled objects can be made into works of art. Participants can learn how to upcycle old clothes into practical tote bags and skipping ropes with Skills3 and create their very own Pop Art inspired work with MEDAF Studio.
Children will have the opportunity to explore the wood turning lathe machine in a workshop by StuDIYo Lab and create their very own functional whistle, pen or egg cup.
From fun, water colour spray painting with MAS Paints, flower pressing with Hello Makers! and traditional Emirati crafts withHirfati to crafting a dream catcher with Engulf Art and plating a Ghaf seed with Goumbook there is something for all ages and creative talents.
