A total of five projects from the Gulf region have made the shortlist of World Building of the Year award at this year’s World Architecture Festival.
A total of five projects from the Gulf region have made the shortlist of World Building of the Year award at this year’s World Architecture Festival.
Three of the five are UAE projects: theButterfly Pavilionby 3deluxein Sharjah; the Office of the Future byKilla Designin Dubai; and, the upcoming Uptown Dubai by Design + More International. The other two are AGi Architects’ Hisham A Alsager Cardiac Center in Kuwait and Capital Market AuthorityHeadquartersby Omrania + Associates, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Looking to the Levant, two buildings in Beirut have also made it to the Future project category: K Galleria byMZ Architects, the designers behind Abu Dhabi’s Aldar HQ, andNabil Gholam Architects’Art Oasis building.
The UK has the largest number of projects this year – includingMaggies’ Centrefor cancer care byFoster + Partnersand a treetop walkway byGlen Howells Architects– followed by Australia and Turkey.
TheWorld Architecture Festival 2016 takes place at Arena Berlin, Germany, 16-18 November, in conjunction with the Inside Festival of interior design.
