Thibault Penven’s Ar Vag, a folding rowboat that you can carry, is one such imaginative and yet pragmatic design product that aims to makes the lives of its users easier.
Penven, a graduate of ECAL, the university of art and design in Lausanne, designed Ar Vag (boat in Breton) as an easily assembled folding attachment with oars intended for use as a shuttle between the shore and a boat.
Ar Vag is designed to be faster to use than an in?atable dinghy and less cumbersome than a ?xed attachment. The design consists of a thin, light hull, made of a series of ?berglass sheets, covered with heat-welded plastic tarpaulin. When folded, the boat can be carried as a backpack and easily stored.
ECAL is an internationally renowned university and features regularly among the world’s top ten universities of art and design.
Ar Vag is one of more than 45 inspiring designs to be presented by the world’s leading design graduates as part of Global Grad Show at Dubai Design Week. The designs encompass the diverse themes of Construction, Health, Home, Memory, Play and Work.
Participating Universities in the Global Grad Show include; the Royal College of Art, MIT, PrattInstitute, HongKongPolyU, NationalUniversityof Singapore, ECAL, KeioUniversityGraduateSchool of Media Design, EindhovenUniversityof Technology, KAIST and TsinghuaUniversity.
