Mumbai contemporary art gallery, Chatterjee & Lal, hosts a two-day pilot project (14-15 July), in advance of this year's Dubai Design Week.

Entitled 'Memoir Bar' and designed by artist duo Thukral & Tagr in collaboration with Bharat Floorings, the interactive work is a witty exploration of whether it is possible to preserve an emotion forever.

The exhibition, which invites visitors to make a personal memory tile and help build a library of memories, will travel to Dubai in October as part of Dubai Design Week’s ‘Abwab’ initiative dedicated to design from the MENASA region.

Thukral & Tagr is New Delhi based design duo Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra. Together the two aim to blur the lines between design and culture by specifically looking at the repercussions cultural globalization has in modern day India. While both playful and humorous, their works express thoughtful questions about the nature of Indian identity as it is articulated by Indians themselves and projected on to India by the rest of the world.

Named after the Arabic word for ‘doors’, the Abwab initiative seeks to act as a gateway to the region’s design talent, gathering together emerging and established talent to explore a single over-arching theme: this year, ‘The Human Senses’. In addition to India, 5 other countries - Algeria, Bahrain, Iraq, Palestine and UAE - will showcase design in response to the theme.
