Greening the urban space, Comptoir 102’s exhibition throughout Dubai Design Week, entitled Nature in the City, creates a link of organic forms and nature.
Comptoir 102 co-founder, Emma Sawko, says sustainability and living a green life rests at the heart of the concept lifestyle store, which is why nature was deemed an ideal theme for the Dubai Design Week in-store exhibition.
Nature in the City features the works of local and regional designers Nathalie Khayat, Arnaud Rivieren and Tory Waller. Each designer uses natural products such as wood, clay and plants to bring forth a representation of nature in their work.
“The beautiful ceramics by Nathalie Khayat are all handmade and completely unique,” Emma says of the Lebanese designer’s work.
“Tory Waller will also provide a plant-based installation, surrounding Nathalie’s work, and the ceramics will be placed on the beautiful tables created by Arnaud Rivieren.”
For Nathalie, clay can provide some of the most penetrating insights into nature. With the fire and glazing in the creation of ceramics evoking the explosive violence and leaden silences, wild collisions, rhythms and falls of the natural world.
“I have attempted to discover the essence of those elements, which unite the entire series of forms and rituals, in my work,” Nathalie says.
Dubai-based Belgian designer, Arnaud Rivieren, is a metaphysical artist and furniture designer, who with a minimalist style, is now focusing on wood as an appropriate and authentic material for his furniture collections.
Meanwhile, Tory Waller’s Living Green is a sustainable décor concept, born out of the desire to reduce social waste. The technique and process of each piece is akin to creating a living sculpture.
Founded in 2012 by Alexandra d Montaudouin and Emma Sawko, Comptoir 102 is a lifestyle concept store focusing on design, fashion, fashion accessories and a healthy café.
Comptoir 102 will also showcase a behind-the-scenes of Nathalie at work as she creates her exhibiting collection.
