Re:Urban Studio will be providing free access to its membership-based co-working space for the duration of Dubai Design Week at Dubai Design District. Come and surround yourself with like-minded creative thinkers. Carpets CC will be hosting a talk, by founder Cecilia, who will talk about carpet design and explain how she finds inspiration, how her ideas take form, and evolve from paintings to carpets.

EXHIBITIONS

Superstudio, one of the leading furniture dealers in Dubai, will be presenting Konstantin Grcic’s Jungle_One installation, an iconic stacking chair made from polished, painted or anodized aluminum, a fantastic example of Grcic’s pared-down, minimalist style. Additionally, Thomas Heatherwick’s unique Magis Spun Chair, will be dotted around the d3 walkways.

With the intent to create the mood for reflection and introspection, architect and product designer Fadi Sarieddine joins forces with the acclaimed jewelry designer and multi-media artist Nadine Kanso for a special collection, Khawatir, which brings together their creative worlds as Sarieddine applies the Calligraphy designs of Kanso to a collection of mirrors and seating.

Tinkah introduces the Tincase 01.17, an extended repertoire of artisan traditional craft that reinterprets the functionality of the tin trunk through the use of different materials and tones.

DZ Design will be hosting an exhibition showcasing virtual reality in architecture & interior design. Visitors are invited to wear the oculus head gear and experience the possibilities of designing, viewing and changing finishes with a few simple hand gestures. They will be able to walk into the interiors of a villa, or walk around a whole building viewing it from various angles, all within the confines of DZ Design’s office.

For its inaugural exhibit, State Of Earth, AR Gallery explores the impact of climate change to instigate thought, conversation and implementation. Curated by Dubai based design journalist and Consulting Editor, Pratyush Sarup, State Of Earth will feature new works by the artist and designer Cecilia Setterdahl; the fine jewelry designer and founder of Bil Arabi, Nadine Kanso; and Tashkeel, the leading Dubai-based contemporary art organization dedicated to creative experimentation across art and design.

The Dutch Design Center in Dubai has partnered with Dutch initiative NExAR. This powerful collaboration presents ‘Dutch Design’ by Studio Mieke Meijer and Olivier van Herpt. NExAR’s objective is the development of sustainable relationships between the Dutch and Arab Design communities, empowering people and organisations to work across cultures and to learn from each other’s perspectives and experiences. Studio Mieke Meijer is a collaboration between Mieke Meijer and Roy Letterlé who work in the field of furniture, lighting and product design from their workshop in Eindhoven (The Netherlands). Olivier van Herpt works at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary industrial design.

To celebrate the launch of the MONTROI nomad guide to Dubai, the brand hosts a photo exhibition UNEXPECTED DUBAI at its flagship studio in Dubai Design District. Guests can re-discover Dubai through the lens of different MONTROI nomad contributors who reveal hidden places in the most cosmopolitan city in the world. Guests will be able to get a printed version of the city guide.

OPEN STUDIOS

Alshaya’s open studio will showcase the latest collection of lighting solutions from Studio Italia combined with iconic Italian furniture by Tacchini and La Cividina as well as renowned German seating company Sedus. The exhibition will show how to create the perfect home office lighting set-up in today’s contemporary spaces.

Viktor Udzenija Architecture + Design Studio has been awarded the Sustainable Initiative of the Year 2016 for the design of its new Dubai Design District (d3) headquarter, is amongst the top design firms in the Middle East for the last two consecutive years, and has won the Best Residential Project of the Year 2016 for their recently completed Jumeirah Residence in Dubai. This design week, you can visit their studio and view various ongoing and completed projects, both regional and international, from the world of architecture, interiors as well as design.

FINASI, one of the UAE’s leading suppliers of luxury Italian furniture, will also be opening its doors to visitors. Finasi presents the new collections from these top brands at its showroom with pieces by the most prestigious names in international design, including Vincent Van Duysen; Jean Nouvel; Ron Gilad; Rodolfo Dordoni; and Foster + Partners, in addition to iconic pieces of radical Italian design such as Bocca, Pratone, Psychedelic Cactus, Jolly Roger, Broken Mirror and Globe.

In addition, you can visit T.ZED Architects’ studio. Visitors will get to know the studio and its creative approach, see different phases of the design process, meet the architects and enjoy its plethora of architectural projects.
