Dubai Design Week is thrilled to announce UAE-based ceramicist Michael Rice as a finalist of Taiwan Ceramic Bienniale 2016.
Michael has been selected for the stunning work ‘Coriolis’ which will become a part of New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum's permanent collection. The Biennial this year takes place in Taipei as part of the World Design Capital 2016 activities.
Michael’s ‘Coriolis’ form was created by slab rolling a large piece of clay and letting it dry for several days. The dried piece was then placed on the potters’ wheel where it is turned and textured several times, before being cut and stood on its edge. The piece’s final finish was then achieved after smoke firing it in a kiln full of combustible materials.
Michael returns to host a new workshop as part of Dubai Design Week’s public programme this year, after hosting a successful pottery workshop last year.
