Dubai Design Week invited a select group of regional and international Instagrammers to tour the various pavilions, exhibitions and installations at Dubai Design District (d3) outside of opening hours.
Dubai Design Week opened Dubai Design District (d3) outside of opening hours on Tuesday 27 October to a select group of regional and international Instagrammers, an event known as an #empty.
The #empty movement began in 2013 when New York's Metropolitan Museum gave Dave Krugman (@dave.krugman) and a group of local Instagrammers access to the museum after it had closed to the public.
It sees regular people invited to events and buildings when they are closed to the general public, providing them with a rare opportunity to explore the beautiful, but often crowded spaces, after hours.
In the United Kingdom, visitors were recently welcomed into the Frieze London event (#emptyFrieze), as well as the Guggenheim in New York (#emptyGuggenheim). Dubai Design Week is proud to be the initiator of the movement's arrival in the Middle East. By reaching out to and supporting the thriving creative community here in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai Design Week in partnership with Dubai Design District (d3) is supporting and nurturing another set of designers and artists.

#emptyDXBDW was such a great experience. Most of the time, the crowd would cause a distraction from appreciating what is in front of us. During the #empty, the place was silent and unobscured by crowds, which gave more freedom to think of visual concepts and at the same time easier to absorb the creative details around us, further giving us inspiration to take photographs.

The event #emptydxbdw was amazing, seeing all these colourful design products from around the world was stunning plus meeting the designers to talk about their work was really informative, I would like to thank Dubai Design Week for inviting us, and especially Jemma Craig as she did awesome job in organising the event.
Being part of #emptyDXBDW was a great way to experience what Dubai Design Week is all about. Interacting with the designers, the installations, and the Dubai Instagram Community has inspired and given me a fresh perspective to continue creating more art.

I really enjoyed visiting Dubai Design Week and being a part of the first #empty in the Middle East.
