Art & Design
Regional artists and designers showcase paintings, products and photography inspired by Islamic architecture at Arabesque Archi-Lab hosted by design boutique o'de rose in Jumeirah, and Cities follows suit with its own art and design exhibition at Galleria Mall. French conceptual artist Bernar Venet makes his debut in Dubai at Custot Gallery Dubai in Alserkal Avenue, showcasing a selection of steel sculptures, works on paper and paintings inspired by maths and science. Iwan Maktabi at Dubai Mall weaves art and design seamlessly with a collection of carpets with abstract designs in varying colours and forms and will be showcasing pieces from world famous carpet designer, Jan Kath’s ‘ARTWORK’ collection.
Furniture
Design Week is a major highlight in the calendar for Dubai’s furniture dealers. In Dubai Design District, Nakkash Gallery will create an innovative open-air installation featuring several designs from Dedon; The Odd Piece showroom launches collections by Antoni Gaudi and Salvador Dali; and Superstudio presents a Tom Dixon pop-up retail space. Further afield in Al Quoz, Mishmashi launches its limited-edition The Poof! Collection, and in Alserkal Avenue boutique architecture studio SVENM unveils a new furniture line designed in Dubai and hand-crafted in Germany.
Jewellery
In Dubai Design District, Nadine Kanso from Bil Arabi celebrates a decade in the business with TenTations showcasing 10 pieces for 10 years and Gafla explores the history of the pearl in the Middle East with its Bahar Collection. Over in Bloomingdale’s Fine Jewellery Department in Dubai Mall, Monogram will launch its Escaping Flatland collection inspired by statistical information on the region, brought into 3D-form in 18K gold. And in Alserkal Avenue The Jewel Teller presents its new Portfolio collection, along with guided tours, workshops and a seminar entitled All About Stones. O Concept infuses a multitude of designs under the same roof showcasing masterpieces from their in-store couture, prêt and accessory designers while collaborating with Architect and Interior designer Rola Al Zobai to bring a European approach of design to fashion retail in Dubai.
