An event at d3 during UAE Innovation Week marked the unveiling of Creatopia, a Dubai Culture spearheaded initiative to create Dubai's first virtual community for creativity.
Creatopia aims to mobilise, activate and inspire talents in Dubai while promoting a new level of partnerships, engagement and collaborative communication within the culture, arts and heritage sectors. Dubai Culture's vision for the website is that it will become a platform for the creative community of Dubai to gather in and grow around, to engage with peers and those organisations on the look-out for talent, and share and exchange resources.
The event commenced with a panel discussion on creativity and commerce in Dubai which included Art Dubai fair director Antonia Carver with Jamal Al Sharif, Managing Director of Dubai Media City and Dubai Studio City; Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation of Tourism & Commerce Marketing. And later, concluded with the launch of Dubai Culture's latest publication, Creative Dubai, a book that charts the evolution of Dubai’s creative industry and some of the creative professionals - such as Art Dubai's Director of Design and Design Days Dubai's Fair Director Cyril Zammit - who have been integral to its growth.
Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority said: “Creatopia is a comprehensive platform that will establish Dubai as a new global centre for creativity and enhance the city’s cultural identity. It will strengthen opportunities and resources for creative professionals to unlock their imagination and true potential. With Creatopia, we are driving critical and creative thinking, which are the fundamental priorities to nurturing the next generation of innovators in creative industries. It will transform Dubai into a unique creative destination for both emerging and established artists.”
