Beirut-born and based designer Rana Salam wants to change the perception of the Middle East through the power of design. One of the Middle East’s most established and celebrated graphic designers and artists, Salam is doing just that, having curated and designed Dubai Design Week’s 2015 Iconic City exhibition, Brilliant Beirut.

A natural choice to present the cosmopolitan creativity of Beirut, the designer’s unique knowledge of Arab culture and its popular art manifests itself in a colourful and vibrant signature design language, which is innovative, powerful, and unique. Her work stems from years of traveling and documenting, merging her collected ephemera and imagery with the latest technology to create a unique vision.

Salam has been running her own London-based, and now Beirut, design studio for more than a decade, producing distinctive designs for clients, including Harvey Nichols, Villa Moda, Liberty of London, Bokja and Boutique 1, the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), and Paul Smith.

Through Brilliant Beirut, Salam will bring the city’s exciting architecture and design to international attention at Dubai Design Week. Her curated and designed exhibition is the first to document the development of design in the Lebanese capital across the past seven decades since independence, illustrating how the city, with its mélange of cultures, produced world-renowned designers and remains at the forefront of design in the region.
