It’s just around the corner! With Dubai Design Week just days away, the city’s leading creative and design professionals have been sharing which events, activities and exhibitions they are most looking forward to attending and participating in.
Tashkeel’s manager, Jill Hoyle, and project co-ordinator, Khalid Mezaina, share their most anticipated Dubai Design Week activities.
Khalid said: “Tashkeel is excited to see Dubai launch Dubai Design Week, showcasing some of the region’s great talent, sharing what the design community here has to offer and marking the city’s contribution to design on an international level.
“We are pleased to be supporting Dubai Design Week through the UAE Pavilion, which is curated by Mobius Design Studio, all founders are long-standing members at Tashkeel.”
Read on for Jill and Khalid’s Top 5 things to see and do during Dubai Design Week:
1. Abwab Pavilions
We are really excited to see the six regional pavilions - and especially the UAE pavilion, which we are proud to have supported. Curated by Mobius Design Studio, (comprised of designers Hadeyeh Badri, Hala Al Ani and Reim Ibrahim), the pavilion will feature the work of some of the UAE's most inventive young designers.
2. Installations located around the city
Including the Soundweaving collaboration between Hybridart of Hungary and the Fatima bint Mohammed Initiative (FBMI), which we will be hosting in the gallery at Tashkeel; and commissioned projects, including Earth Hives, an exciting collaboration by Latifa Saeed and Talin Hazbar, Truss.T by Zeinab AlHashemi and Yaroof by Aljoud Lootah, all designers with whom we have worked in the past.
3. Workshops
The workshop programme looks like a must for any designer, especially the workshop on micro-enterprises with Roanne Dods, from Small is Beautiful, which is a key partner on the Tashkeel design programme, Modular Arabic Type Design with Lara Assouad and the DDFC Urban Majlis.
4. Destination at Downtown Design
This looks like a great opportunity to see the work of young, new design brands from each of six other international design weeks, which we have not had the chance to see in Dubai before.
5. Global Grad Show
It is not usually possible to see the work of these students without visiting their individual graduation shows. The Global Grad Show provides an amazing opportunity to see the most innovative design from some of the world's finest design students showcased alongside each other.
