Make time during Design Week to swing by the showroom of international full service interiors and architecture company Chelsea Grey on Pendarosa to see their new collection All Things Artisan. Each high-end, hand-made product is a fusion of metal, glass, marble and precious stones inspired by natural, organic forms and, wherever possible, is crafted by female artisans from Africa, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Europe and even Dubai.

Head to Dubai International Academic City to explore thought provoking workshops and exhibitions on design on a global platform. Join Rayan Abdullah, Professor of Typography and Graphics at Leipzig Academy of Graphic and Book Arts, Germany at the International Design Conference: From Design to Global Identity hosted by the American University in the Emirates to explore the concept of global identity. Heriot Watt University creates a platform to encourage creativity, dialogue and interactions with the public realm through the exhibition Designing the Void. Explore local designers interpretation of designated spaces in this outdoor exhibition showcasing the designers own work within a three-metre cubed space.

In Knowledge village, SAE Institute host a hands-on workshop on the art of paper engineering. Spanning across 500 years, paper engineering was originally used to create movable books that facilitate astronomical calculations, architectural perspective and human anatomy. Fast forward to modern day, the intro to pop-ups workshop will cover basic techniques used in making pop-ups to create your very own pop-up card.

Journey south bound towards JLT to participate in a speaker series by Orikami Lab and connect with the design community. Discuss the passion points and pain points of the creative industry, how to create meaningful collaborations between artists and designers, as well as the exploration of Design Thinking with different industries and businesses in the Middle East.

Finally, head to Kvardat showroom to get a unique preview of the renowned British Indian design duo Doshi Levien’s first curtain collection for Kvardat/Maharam. The designers’ naïve futuristic and architecturally formed Pilotis installation, presented in London, will make its way to the showroom; along with a selection of paper planes upholstered in Kvardat textiles create a sensational exhibition.
