Want to try something new? Sharabassy will be hosting a variety of workshops in d3 that require no prior experience. Get creative with the ARABIC TYPE WORKSHOP, and learn how to create, design, and use different materials, objects, sketches, and photographs to create a unique Arabic type. Or, learn how to take your own eye-catching photographs of the city with a professional architectural photographer in this ARCHITECTURE AND PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP. You can also consider the ARCHITECTURE AND FILMS /COMICS WORKSHOP during which you will explore the role architecture plays in movies and TV series and be asked to design a movie scene based upon the knowledge you gained. If buildings aren’t your cup of tea, perhaps you may be interested in learning how to design for and by food using visual exploring, story cubes, and story cards in this FOOD DESIGN THINKING WORKSHOP.
On Friday afternoon unleash the artist within you and join the URBAN SKETCHING WITH SHANQOO workshop, aimed at introducing and fostering the spirit of Urban Sketching for enthusiasts and beginners in Dubai.
While you are at d3, be sure to check out IKEA’s LET’S PLAY FOR CHANGE, an exhibition designed to transport you to another world filled with wonder, delight, mystical illusions, and surprises. Captivating-ly designed elements encourage kids, teenagers, and grown-ups to engage in play, and the outdoors have been taken indoors to show sustainable, creative ways of living.
Another must visit is the ORIGINBASE studio during open hours to see makers, artists, engineers, hobbyists, and professionals at work in different workshops for woodworking, welding, leather work, laser cutting, and more and join demos of any process you're interested in. Cool projects by OriginBase staff or members will be showcased and refreshments and snacks will be provided.
If life without coffee makes you depresso, begin your Saturday with a KARAM COFFEE EXPERIENCEin Al Quoz. Guests will gather in the Karam Experience Room and be offered traditional welcome drinks, after which a small brief about Karam Foods Industries by the marketing team and a brief about the coffee journey by Ms. Juliet and the Baristas will be presented. Then, learn the difference between hot air roasting and the conventional drum roasting in their lab, followed by a demonstration of how the larger scale production works. After a brief cupping session, there will be a quick quiz and high scorers will even be presented with the freshly roasted coffee!
Kids love their toys, so why not take them to an educational talk on their favorite subject? Klug Educational Toys & Play will be presenting a pop-up of regional education toys and games for all ages in Arabic in their talk, TOY DESIGN - FROM CONCEPT TO COMMERCIAL. Regional toy and games designers from UAE and Saudi Arabia will be present to talk about their journey, share their sketches, present their products, and encourage visitors to sit & play. Discover the art, beauty and sense of fun behind iconic vinyl bears at the NOT A TOY: BE@RBRICK COLLECTION EXHIBITION at d3, tracing the personal journey of an ardent BE@RBRICK collector and dealer as he traveled from Seoul to Singapore and on to Paris, London, New York and Hong Kong. For some hands-on fun, take your kids to Re:Urban Studio at d3 on Friday for the MY HERO: A DOLL MAKING WORKSHOP. Open to children between 6 – 16 years old, participants will be creating their hero from sketch to doll, learning basic sewing skills along the way. Each child will leave with their completed doll and the knowledge that their participation enables a less fortunate child to create a meaningful doll of their own. The Forum will also be holding CREATE YOUR OWN ROBOTworkshops throughout the day, inviting kids and adults to be part of an exciting series of robotic workshops incorporating the creative convergence of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM). Lead by professional robotic instructors from Robo Tami- a trailblazer brand in robot kits from South Korea, the workshops are open to children from the age of 5 and to adults as well. Parents are encouraged to participate with their children in the process that applies critical thinking, inquiry and playful dialogue. Throughout the weekend AL JALILA CULTURAL CENTRE FOR CHILDREN will alsobe hosting art workshops, including book binding, silk screen printing, and pottery making, along with ceramic exhibitions and public engaging performances for families and children.
