Design is becoming increasingly important in business. Yet, we know little about how to best manage the design discipline to successfully innovate. In this talk, Prof. Manuel Sosa will present the core findings of his recent research focused on studying “design” and will address three fundamental questions: how do styles in design emerge and change over time; where do design gurus come from?; what’s the return on design? Prof. Sosa will discuss how addressing these questions help us manage design for successful innovating.

Dr. Sami Mahroum
Dr. Mahroum is the Founding Director of INSEAD Innovation & Policy Initiative on the Abu Dhabi campus. He researches and lectures on innovation policy, metrics, and policy design. His forthcoming book, “The Black Swan Start-up: Understanding the Rise of Successful High-Tech Start-ups in Less Likely Places” (Palgrave MacMillian) details the stories of 11 successful high-tech startups from Australia, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Professor Sosa teaches in the MBA, PhD, and Executive programs at INSEAD covering topics related to innovation management and design. He runs a joint INSEAD program with the Art Center College of Design (Pasadena, California) that integrates creative and business thinking for successful innovating.
His research has been published in various journals including Management Science, Organization Science, ASME Journal of Mechanical Design, Research in Engineering Design, and Harvard Business Review.Panellists
Dr. Ajay Kapur; Director of the Music Technology program (MTIID) at the California Institute of the Arts, Associate Dean for Research and Development in Digital Arts.
Dr Kapur runs a PhD Research Group in Wellington New Zealand called Sonic Engineering Lab for Creative Technology. He is also the Founder and CEO of Kadenze, the Creative Arts MOOC. Kapur has published over 100 technical papers and written two books “Digitizing North Indian Music”, and "Introduction to Programming for Musicians and Digital Artists" a textbook for artists to learn computer science.
Leigh Ann Khosla; Director, Development and Operations for the Dubai Design and Fashion Council (DDFC).
Leigh Ann has responsibility for leading key projects and developing key stakeholder relationships to support the mandate of the DDFC. She is also responsible for establishing the talent development strategy for DDFC which includes education outreach programs.
H.E. Huda Al Hashimi, Executive Director of the newly established Mohammed Bin Rashid Center for Government Innovation. Her role is to lead in the setup and execution of the Centers Vision and Goals.
She also holds the post of Executive Director of Policy + Strategy Affaires at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Ministry of Cabinet Affaires. Her main role is to ensure the successful execution of the UAE Vision 2021 and National Innovation Strategy by developing, coordinating, reviewing and monitoring federal policies, as well ensuring effective and timely planning and delivery of the UAE government’s strategic outcomes.
