DRAK16 under the design topic ‘Celebrating Wood’ is returning back during Dubai Design Week 2016 in a new venue at its home area, Ras Al Khor Industrial. Reinforcing its vision for Ras Al Khor Industrial area, the new venue is a former tile factory (Lever Building Materials) that DRAK will occupy for a week to present its 2016 edition and bring the life back to this industrial spot at Ras Al Khor. DRAK16 will present 4 main design projects by 4 carefully selected & invited UAE based and International designers. Selection process and invitations were made in coordination with DRAK 2016 'Official Partner’ – Eyes on Talents, a Paris-based – invitation-only digital platform that connects innovative brands with creative talents. 2016 line up design fields and designers is as follow:

  • Interactive Design- Hind Bin Demaithan
  • Textile Design – Hala Kaiksow (DRAK guest designer – Bahrain)
  • Film – Lina Younes
  • Graphic Design – Tulip Hazbar

In addition to the above main 4 projects, DRAK16 will bring and showcase for the first time in the region few International projects selected by its 2016 main Official Partners collectively in a special platform ‘International Projects Selection’. Award winning projects such as ‘Aleni’ seat by David Trubridge presented by the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and Surfaces Sonores by Pierre Charrie presented by Eyes on Talents are among the line up.

DRAK16 in collaboration with Ghaf Kitchen also will introduce 6 Pop-up culinary experiences; one for each evening during the week at its new industrial venue in Ras Al Khor for a limited number of guests. The 3-courses menu will vary every evening as per the Chef creations. A booking facility will be put in place to take and confirm all dinner reservations. Corporate bookings will be welcomed too for these exclusive experiences.

New to 2016 edition, DRAK in its efforts to support the design industry will host a group of international speakers and designers who will be in Dubai specifically to deliver 2 informative talks and panel discussion about DRAK16 design topic and trends in the industry.

Design Ras Al Khor (DRAK) is a collective design initiative established in 2015 in Dubai and founded by four UAE based designers: Khalid Shafar, Khulood Thani, Nadine Kanso, & Tarik Al Zaharna.
