E11 refers to the road weaving through the UAE, from the Saudi to the Omani border. The project hopes to reveal nuances, narrate landscapes and represent heterogeneity along the UAE’s main artery. A result of extensive documentation of spaces, buildings and landscapes across the UAE, E11 aspires to paint a portrait of the country that challenges its typical representation.

As part of Nadi Al Quoz’s summer programme, the Center for Architectural Discourse is launching an E11 publication that pairs a selection of 26 photographs and words into a glossary format. Various writers, architects, artists, and members of the extended creative community have been invited to respond to the pairings with short texts that include personal narratives, poems, fiction etc.

Complementing the intention of narrating spaces along the E11 is a film documenting the interstitial spaces. Directed by Ekta Saran, the film presents the sequential procession of environments, highlighting adjacencies and time and presenting movement along the nodes featured in the publication.

About the Center for Architectural Discourse

The Center for Architectural Discourse engages critical conversations around architecture and urbanism that extend beyond the realm of architects and encourage the public to enquire and respond to issues related to the built environment.
