The book explores how natural and artificial light have played a big role throughout the history of sacred Islamic Architecture, and how both have given each Islamic dynasty its own identity.
Five historical mosques have been carefully chosen, visited and photographed in order to cover different major dynasties from the Umayyads to the Ottomans. The book offers a visual dialogue for the reader with technical illustrations that help explain the different lighting scenes and scenarios for each mosque, and photography that celebrates these unique architectural masterpieces.
