Emirati culture is rich in patterns, whether in architecture (mosques, Barjeel wind towers), interiors (Haseer rugs, cushions), fashion (Thob), jewellery or even in nature (sand dunes, sea waves and palm trees etc). Common characteristics of the UAE’s people such as generosity, compassion, and chivalry also create sensual patterns.
Monogram’s designs show emotions in patterns, using three Arabic letters, Alif - Ain – Meem, that symbolize the initials of the UAE. Using different compositions in every pattern, the three monograms introduce a visual language to define certain emotions. These emotions trigger feelings that are subjective to the viewers, based on their personal experiences and beliefs.
The designs are made of 18K gold, to encourage people to use their imaginations and form their own story of how they interpret these patterns.
About MONOGRAM
Design firm Monogram was founded in UAE in October 2015. It designs Arabic letters as modern architectural sculptures that symbolize the fast-growing, multidimensional Emirati culture, and the need for the Arabic language to keep pace with this contemporary culture. The firm also promotes design thinking and inspires people to think in multiple dimensions.
