The fronds of our remains presented by Ruwaya Jewellery in collaboration with Shamsa Al Dhaheri

Both Fatima and Shamsa having the same connection and appreciation towards the palm tree sourced from culture and tradition, translated into different mediums of art.

Inspired by one another, their pieces converse with each other in the same space creating an interesting dialogue.

The palm tree is a rich symbol for commenting on transformations in the UAE. It was once a tool of survival and living, now transformed into a decorative prop or ornament and is not what its used for today.

A vital material that symbolizes the significant progression in UAE, and stands in stark contrast to the palm, is plastics and metallic elements. Using wood, acrylic plastic and yarn sourced from palm trees, Shamsa created her piece using light resulting in abstract and organic shadows on the floor allowing visitor to interact with the piece. The Palm Tree Experience allows the visitor to feel as if they are walking under palm trees being comforted by its shadows.

About Fatima Al Dhaheri

Fatima's path to becoming a jewellery designer was almost preordained. Her career as a jeweller began while working for her father at his renowned fine jewellery brand Amwaj, where she began creating one-off pieces for her friends and family. Encouraged by her father to pursue her own vision, she then studied at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), refining her skills and learning the intricacies of diamond and coloured stones before the official nascence of Ruwaya in U.A.E. in 2015. Fatima draws from the influence of her family, her inherent sense of style, Arab aesthetics and a fusion of culture within the UAE.
