The Serac Bench was developed as an urban sculpture for seating and resting that seamlessly integrates with its context. Its striated articulations emerge from the landscape, each layer taking its own unique trajectory in reaction to latent forces that disperse - and ultimately coalesce - the many strata of the bench to generate its overall formal composition.

Zaha Hadid’s work as an architect and designer explored spatial concepts at all scales from the city to interior, exhibition and set design commissions, to individual products including sculptural jewellery, limited edition furniture pieces, homeware items and fashion accessories. Zaha Hadid Design (ZHD) was established in 2006 to implement the latest technological and material innovations in collaboration with the world’s most respected brands.

ZHD also features a gallery space in the heart of London. Arranged over two floors, it hosts an ever-changing programme of exhibitions, collaborations, and collateral events. The ZHD Gallery also regularly showcases the work of emerging designers, young artists and innovative fabricators.

The design rediscovers the fluid, continuous nature of Hadid’s work - exploring relationships between solid and void, object and ground, form and function; an evolutionary lineage that is evident throughout her repertoire.

The Serac Bench was designed by Zaha Hadid and Patrik Schumacher, and manufactured by The Italian Lab.

Presented by The Italian Lab.

The Italian Lab manufactures street furniture and recycling containers. Its products are developed mainly using galvanized steel, stainless steel, corten steel and ultra-high performance concrete. Employing the latest technological solutions, Italian Lab’s in-house design team collaborates with international architects and designers

to fabricate extraordinary, high-performance pieces and bespoke solutions for public spaces, streets and the urban environment that are characterized by their sophisticated design and outstanding quality.
