Fine jewellery brand Gafla was founded in 2015 by Hamad bin Shaiban, Abdulla BelJafla and Bushra bint Darwish who share a passion for Emirati heritage and its role in cutting edge modern jewellery design. Gafla’s showroom is located in the heart of the Dubai Design District where it offers Gafla Bespoke, a highly tailored service that translates personal ideas into exquisite pieces of fine jewellery. Drawing on the pioneering philosophy of Arabia’s past, each Gafla collection reimagines traditional motifs and stories to create the treasures of tomorrow. Every design is handmade using only the finest diamonds and gemstones, creating unique and stunning jewels for the international collector.

For Dubai Design Week 2017, Gafla presents Specular, showcasing its Baraag collection which is inspired by traditional Emirati jewellery that is only worn at special occasions due to its heavy weight of 24K Gold. The collection combines thin sheets of 18K gold, and diamonds and gemstones that highlight elements of reflection and flashes of light. It will be displayed within a geometric matrix structure designed by award-winning Emirati architect Abdalla AlMulla.

The structure and guidelines of the space’s design are defined by the rhombus shape that appears throughout the Baraag collection. Mirrored surfaces will bedazzle the visitor and inspire their sense of wonder as they walk towards the jewellery on display, allowing them to experience the collection in a subconscious way.
