IV presents a recreation of the iron throne from Game of Thrones comprised of discarded picture frames from its atelier.

Game of Frames is a creation resembling the theatrical iron throne from Game of Thrones, made from pieces of discarded picture frames left over from IV’s atelier. IV sees discarded objects as misplaced art waiting to take form. IV chose the most potent symbol from the storyline of Game of Thrones, one of the biggest TV series of all time, to incorporate frames from seven continents representing the seven kingdoms. This contemporary work of art seeks to generate curiosity around the history of framing.

In the 2nd century A.D, a framed Fayum mummy portrait was discovered at Hawara in an ancient Egyptian tomb. In 1423, Palla Strozzi, a banker and the richest man in Florence, commissioned Gentile da Fabriano to paint a version of the Adoration of the Magi, and for the first time the frame became as much of a work of art as the painting, hence the art of framing was born.

Take a seat on the Game of Frames throne and go on a historical voyage through the evolution of frames and framing practices over time.
