The Assembly hosts a special workshop at In5 in Dubai Design District (d3) focused on 3D printing and vacuum forming, two related creative pursuits that rely on exponential technology.

3D printing has left an indelible mark on the imaginations of tech enthusiasts, enabling practical applications for the DIY, engineering, design and entrepreneurial communities through rapid prototyping and the near-instant fabrication of parts for projects.

This special workshop explains in detail how the umbrella term ‘3D printing’ actually covers a range of technologies involving both software and hardware, and shows participants how 3D objects can be quickly designed and rendered in a variety of materials and on different surfaces - including fabric! Vacuum forming is a simplified form of thermoforming that uses heat and suction to generate plastic molds based on 3D-printed objects that can then be used to shape various substances including fragile consumables such as chocolate or soap into exact forms time and time again.

A production line using both these processes can be set up on an office tabletop thanks to the latest commercially available gadgets. Going from idea to design to product is now possible in a very short time with very little hassle.

All hardware and materials will be provided by The Assembly on site. Participants just need to bring a laptop if they’d like to learn how to operate the design software.
