Dubai Holding presents the Middle Eastern and Asia premiere of WATERLICHT, an immersive outdoor dream landscape by Dutch artist and innovator Daan Roosegaarde exploring the power and poetry of water.

Presented by Dubai Holding, WATERLICHT marks the opening of Jameel Arts Centre at Dubai’s new neighbourhood for contemporary art, Jaddaf Waterfront.

WATERLICHT is the dream landscape about the power and poetry of living with water by artist and innovator Daan Roosegaarde. In Dubai`s history, water always has been an important element that enabled the cities connectivity to the rest of the world, water is in its DNA. The ambition that Dubai`s has, to be one of the most sustainable cities in the world, moving from an old fossil area, towards a more sustainable area with green energy, learning from nature and to redefine our relation with water, is one of the most important trades marks of the city of tomorrow. WATERLICHT sheds light on this ambition, on the power of adopting new ideas, fostering innovation, and strongly referring to the most important theme of the Expo 2020: sustainability. WATERLICHT creates a collective experience to share the importance of how we want the future city to look like.

Dutch artist and innovator Daan Roosegaarde (1979) is a creative thinker and maker of social designs which explore the relation between people, technology and space and best known for creating landscapes of the future. He founded Studio Roosegaarde in 2007, where he works with his team of designers and engineers towards a better future. Roosegaarde is Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum and featured by Forbes and Good 100 as a creative change maker. Roosegaarde is also one of this year’s keynote speakers at Dubai Design Week.

The installation launches a series of public events and activations curated by Art Jameel for Jaddaf Waterfront Sculpture Park, the first open-air art and sculpture park located in the heart of Dubai.

Due the unique nature of the installation, Waterlicht can only be viewed after sunset.
