Supported by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), Made In Al Quoz is a first of its kind initiative that presents an opportunity for makers to produce a public seating design for the forthcoming Al Quoz Creative District.

Designers are invited to present proposals for the three pieces of the same public seating to be manufactured in Al Quoz industrial zone and installed entirely within a budget of AED60,000.

Shortlist of entries will be selected by the Made In Al Quoz jury and will be unveiled in January 2020 during the 8th edition of Quoz Arts Fest on 24 and 25 January, 2020 with the winning design selected through a public voting process

Submission Brief:

Format: Public seats
Purpose: Activating under-utilized areas

The design must be address the following:

  • Be suitable for outdoor installation in Al Quoz District
  • Be a maximum height of 2.5m and cannot exceed 4sqm in area
  • Have a weight of less than 400kg per square meter
  • Be easily maintained considering the climate of Dubai; the heat, dust and sand should be easily cleaned
  • Be THREE pieces of the same design, must be manufactured and installed entirely within a budget of AED60,000
  • Be entirely produced in Al Quoz Industrial District with a manufacturer that the designer will identify as part of their application research.

Power Requirements:

  • If the project requires solar-power, it must be fully integrated into the proposal and design

Applicants:

  • Must be residents of the UAE
  • Can be individuals or collectives, students or professionals (anyone can apply)

Submissions must include:

  • A minimum of one and maximum of five digital files showing the proposed concept – (physical models, renderings, architectural drawings and/or sketches are encouraged).
  • A clear budget for the production of the design.
  • A description text of 300 hundred words describing the concept of the design
