The webinar aimed to highlight the importance of the Intellectual Property Protection in the Design sector.

Intellectual Property rights are property rights that allow creators to benefit from their work and from their investment in their creation. They also enable them to prevent others from unfairly taking advantage of their creative or innovative efforts. In order to give an overview of the protection that Intellectual Property provides to designers, five guest speakers presented the full value chain of IP Rights. Thus, Dr. Jinane Kabbara, Regional IP Counselor in the French Embassy and Dr. Sarhan Almuaini, IP Counselor in SAM IP, presented the protectable subject matters in the Design sector. Mrs Fatima Alhousany, Head of the Trademark department in the Ministry of Economy gave an overview of the registration process. Then, Mr. Malek Hannouf, Chairman of Gulf BPG discussed IP enforcement and finally Mrs. Natasha Aoun, legal advisor at Chalhoub Group, spoke about the distributors and franchisees rights.
