Participants explored the stages of making natural, handmade watercolour paint out of foraged rocks from the mountains of Sharjah.

Every natural landscape around us has its own unique colour palette. Throughout history, artists have looked to nature as source of inspiration, for their tools and most of their materials.

The participants of this workshop learned through a demo on how to create natural, handmade paint from foraged rocks from mountains as well as rare minerals such as lapis, lazuli, and malachite. Participants discovered the various materials that go into paint, and how early renaissance artists were able to acquire some of the world's most expensive and peculiar pigments.
