The department of graphic design at AUE organized its 7th International Design Conference (IDC) titled “Moving from graphic design to interaction and UX Design” on November 9th, 2021.

This edition of IDC explored the connection between interaction design and contemporary graphic design theory and practice. “Interaction design is the creation of a dialogue between a person and a product, system, or service. This dialogue is both physical and emotional and is manifested in the interplay between form, function, and technology as experienced over time.”John Kolko. Interaction design is an extension of graphic design. It goes beyond knowing graphic design principles, branching out into interactive digital media, UX/UI, making visual communication more engaging for users and consumers. IDC explored the main drivers behind the rise in graphic designers seeking to develop advanced UX skills or transition fully into UX design: Consumer demand and greater role diversity. Graphic, UI, and UX designers share common skills, aims, and approaches within design thinking, although the disciplines remain distinct in many ways. These may include career variety, greater holistic awareness, and an increased focus on the user experience. Leading international designers and educators shared their experience and expertise throughout the conference on these issues. In addition, workshops introduced professionals, students, and the design community to interactivity and the importance of user experience.
