This session offered a hands-on introduction to plaster, participants learnt the methods of live casting, and creating molds.

This workshop was an introduction to Alginate and Plaster mainly used in design and sculpture. Participants learnt the method of direct casting. They learnt how to create molds of either their personal objects as well their hands, feet or those of others. It was an introductory workshop designed for beginners who are particularly interested in designing 3D objects. The workshop was divided into two sessions. During the first hour, they learnt how to make a mold of the objects. The following hour was dedicated to learn the casting techniques(s). Participants also learnt how to turn the conventional form into an installation or an abstraction.

Note: Participants were requested to bring their own objects of any material preferably flat from one side. The maximum size for the 3D object was 2 x 2 inches.

About the Artist:

Amna Ilyas is a multidisciplinary artist, currently living and working between Dubai, Vienna and Pakistan. She has exhibited solo projects both at national and international venues, including Aicon Gallery (London) and Seven Art (currently known as Nature Morte) in New Delhi, India. She has been awarded several fellowships for residencies and research programmes around the world including Vermont Studios Centre, USA; Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, Scotland, UK; Northlands Creative, UK.
