Noura Al-Serkal
In this workshop, participants obtained a new perspective of working with wax through experimenting carving wax which is a beginner-friendly practice to create different objects.
Make an Object with Wax provided participants a new understanding of working with wax. Carving wax is a great beginner practice to start creating small sculptures that can be worn or to create objects that can sit on it’s own as a form of art. The participants learnt about lost wax casting and created their own forms using jewelry tools to carve, burn and file the wax forms. Then, participants were given the option to send it of to the caster to get the object in sterling silver for an additional cost.

About the Artist:
Noura is an artist driven by excavating the relationships between the known and the unknown. She explores means of uncovering her family history and genealogy through archival research and re-engineered narratives. She counters an expected materiality with an interrogation of the immaterial; she confounds the commercial and the artistic. Oriented towards uncovering neglected or potentially taboo narratives, Alserkal’s practice is encapsulated in materials and objects that resonate with experimentation and sharp-edged insight.
