An exciting recycling journey, from plastic to reforming a recycled plastic coaster, all while gaining an understanding of the process

Precious Plastic Dubai guided participants through the entire recycling process, through handling locally made set of machines used shred, melt and upcycle plastic into decorative or functional items. Through this workshop participants sorted and styled plastic into their own beautiful coaster. From segregation to polishing attendees learned about the Precious Plastic community and also grasped the significance of waste collection, strategies for reducing plastic consumption, and insights into combating the plastic waste crisis to protect the planet's future.

About Hernán Torres:

Hernán Torres is the director of the Tashkeel-based Dubai Chapter of Precious Plastic, an international online community, whose main objective is to change the perception about plastic from waste to a precious material that can be transformed and reused. Hernán was born in Mexico where he studied international business. The UAE has been his home since 2012, and his passion for the environment has urged him to seek an effective way to raise awareness about plastic pollution. With the assistance of locals, Hernán built two home-scale recycling machines to make the workshops more interactive. More than ten workshops have been conducted in diverse schools, galleries, and events using these machines.
