Featured three electronic artworks designed for the Abu Dhabi desert.

The exhibition featured three electronic artworks designed for the Abu Dhabi desert. Dunewind Resonator consisted of electronic sound sculptures that turned a dune into a musical instrument. The Oasis included robotic lotus flowers that interacted with light, challenging the perception of a lifeless desert. حكايـــــة (Hekaya) was an interactive storytelling device that highlighted the rich history and communal spirit of Emirati desert life. Together, these artworks demonstrated how technology could foster deeper connections with the natural environment.

Dunewind Resonator was created by Michael Ang, Scott Kildall, and Tegan Ritz McDuffie; The Oasis by Dhabia AlMansoori, Joseph Hong, Maitha AlGhfeli, and Salama Almheir; and حكايـــــة (Hekaya) by Aalya Sharaf, Dhabia Alhosani, Nouf Ahmed AlNuaimi, and Shaikha Al Nasri.

About Desert Media Art:

Desert Media Art is a course at NYU Abu Dhabi, taught by Professor Michael Ang, where students create portable electronic artworks tailored for the desert environment. The projects respond to the desert's history and ecology, fostering interactions that connect people with each other and their surroundings. The course combines creative and practical elements, culminating in a desert installation. By enabling electronic artwork to be installed anywhere, it opens up new possibilities for site-specific installations, interactive interventions, and the integration of art with diverse environments. Desert Media Art is part of the Interactive Media program at NYU Abu Dhabi.
