Altqadum
Altqadum featured a special performance by an Omani musical troupe at their TukTukDum installation.
Immersed in the vibrant sounds of Oman, a live performance by an Omani musical troupe was presented by Altqadum, the winning design studio of this year’s Urban Commissions, for their installation, TukTukDum. Rooted in the traditional rhythms of Oman, the performance brought together the deep beats of the tabl drum and the resonant rahmani bass drum, embodying and preserving ancient drumming traditions passed down through generations.
More than just a musical experience, the performance served as a ceremonial expression of Omani culture, inviting audiences to connect with the communal spirit and energy infused in every beat.
About TukTukDum
TukTukDum by Altqadum embodies this year’s Urban Commissions theme, “Tawila,” Arabic for “table,” exploring the table as a powerful symbol of human interaction. Altqadum’s design draws from Gulf musical traditions where communities gather around musicians, creating a unified experience of celebration and dialogue. Designed as an interactive table, TukTukDum is more than just an installation; it invites festival-goers to participate actively, blurring the lines between observer and performer. The piece fosters a communal environment where visitors can feel part of the rhythm, sharing in a modern interpretation of the Gulf’s musical heritage.
